First of all, I apologize for posting in the Car audio forum, but what better place to get some audio nuts to read my post!
I am going to be purchasing a set of bookshelf speakers for my bedroom, they will be pushed by a Technics Home Theatre amp.
I don't care to build myself, and i'm not shipping anything in from the States cuz I need some warranty.
Anyone out there have any experience with Polk Audio R20s? Mission M71? Bose 201 IV? JBL N26 II? Athena as-B1?
THanks for any advice, or recommendations!

I recently helped my friend put together a home theater system, and he ended up with a pair of polk rt 25i's for his fronts, and they sound great. I think he paid about 150.00 for the pair on ebay. I have klipsch kg 3.5's and they sound nice, but I must say I was pretty impressed with the polks. I have never been a big fan of bose.

I Had Missions before,,,they are excellent..I read reviews for the Athena,,they are ok. To me,,the best for home theatre may be Pinnacle. They are made in NY, and sell direct. I would try not to put Bose in the same list, unless you wanted to use them as foot stools so you can place the otehr speakers in place.
The best recieved from those speakers though are the Mission M71... Sound Dynamics RT-3 was very well recommended by all audiophile magazines, and they are a bargain.

I second Polk. I haven't heard a pair that I didn't like. And the price is great too.

HA HA HA HA HA!!
I just got a set of Mission M72 speakers for less than the price of some crappy-ass not-nearly-as-nice-sounding speakers! I paid C$414 including tax. As far as I know, that's a great price!
Holy S**T they sound amazing. Thanks for all your advice, everyone.
One more question!
Are you supposed to 'break-in' speakers? I once heard you should keep volume levels low when the speakers are new so that they can 'stretch-out'.
Any truth to this rumour?
Thanks
Brian

It can make a miniscule difference in sound. It used to be important with woofers with a clothe surround that could be "stretched" with today materials, only the geekiest of audiofools need to break in their speakers. Plus, this only really helps if you are building your own speakers. Breaking in causes a small variation in the T/S parameters in most cases. If you want to follow through on the small benefits, you would need to remeasure them.

I have some PSB Centuri 500's that I bought about 3 years ago. They are made in Canada, so your pricing might be advantageous (sp) because they wouldn't be imported.
I went to a high end stero dealer and sampled them and a few other things that aren't heard of very often but sounded quite good. It seems once you get out of the big brands you make a nice step up in SQ, IMO
