My car stalls when I give just a little gas (like merging forward in a drive thru) I was told its the Idle Air Control valve. They also told me that if I were to replace it, I would have to replace my intake manifold? That its built into the manifold. Talking to several people about this, they say thats bogus. Are zetecs differant?

Why would the car stall if you open the throttle plate to let more air in, when the IAC is just a bypass valve to let air into the engine, which would pretty much act like a throttle plate...

Sounds like a sensor error with the MAF...
My brother had the same problem with his truck, Mazda B2500

Ran like [censored], touch gas alittle, it stalled, MAF was misreading what was going into the engine, unplugged the MAF, it ran like a dream

IAC is a [censored] on a Zetec, so I'd personally try to avoid it first, unplug MAF, car goes into Limp-mode, hopefully to where the car stays on, not where it tries to kill the car... my mom's escort won't run on Limp-mode without the MAF...

It is bolted into the intake mani. Not sure if you can get to it under the car....but they may have to pull the intake mani off. As far as replacing it, that is just BS.

You can get to it from under the car, its easier I think. I know its location and am replacing it soon due a rough idle.
Looks like two 10mm bolts should take it off.

I'm not using an IAC on my engine, and don't have that problem.
You definitely do not need the manifold
I'd be looking at the TPS needing adjustment.

Kremit.
Mine is in a rear drive application.
No IAC, No intake air temp sensor, removed the OBD crap, only using the precat O2 sensor.
The only time It might stall is if I come to a stop really quickly...1280 pound car stops real quick.
I have adjusted the throttle stop to raise idle but the ECU compensated out the change, so I guess adaptive function keeps my idle.
