On my 1998 V6 LX (manual windows and locks) I'm starting to have some lock troubles. The fronts are getting really finicky and sticky. It took me a minute to get it open once yesterday as I was trying to get out. (I always lock the doors when I'm in the car) I had to keep swiveling the lock and finally it would open. This happens on the passenger side front, but only since I locked the keys in once last winter, and AAA jimmied it.

Any ideas? Anyone run into something like this? Is something just getting worn in there? Or could some part of the lock mechanism be a little out of place? (I had an old car once, that had to be jimmied, and that lock never worked right after. I took the door apart and checked it out, and a piece was just disconnected. I replaced it and it worked fine.)

Has anyone taken a manual lock door apart? Any insight?

Thanks. Not a huge problem, but is getting a little frustrating.

I have a similar issue on my 1995. My driveway slopes down toward the street, I usually open the door, then push the lock button, that way when I close the door it will be locked. If the door closes before I get out, the only way out is to roll down the window and unlock the door from the outside. One of Ford's better ideas I guess!!

Get some graphite lubricant, or WD40, and soak the lock mechanism with it, and get some in the lock cylinder. Could just be sticky parts. For some reason, Ford does not make locks very well- my family's Explorer has lock troubles, our old Escort had them, and my Contour is starting to show lock trouble signs.

More information... The passenger side door (that was jimmied last year) will always open with the key from the outside, but sometimes won't if I reach across and turn the swivel.

A couple of times over the past 3-4 months, when trying to get out of the driver's side, I swiveled the lock and pulled the handle, and it wouldn't open. The last time (which was why I started this thread) it took me a while to get out. I kept locking it, and unlocking and trying to open...

Any ideas? Has anyone ever taken one of our doors apart? You modder's with the LED's? Any insight? Thanks !
