Anyone know anything about the JBL BP1200.1 mono amp? I was going to use it to push two 12" Alpine R-type subs. Anyone have any experience with this amp, or advice?

YOu think it compares to the alpine MRD-500? The JBL has a 100 watts more power RMS, and is almost $100 dollars cheaper. But does the quality compare?

I say it's better than what it costs They made some pretty good subamps.

Do you think it has enough power to push two 12 inch alpine R-types? they are 1000 watts peak

Absolutely. More power than they need.

The JBL will put 600w into a 4ohm load. It'll put 1200w into a 2ohm or 1ohm load. You're more likely to overpower the Type R subs than not have enough (depending on how you hook them up).
BTW, peak measures are useless. You'll want to use rms (continuous power measurement) for matching up equipment.

BTW, here it is for $270 - 1200.1 FWIW, you might be better off with a BP600.1 and a pair of the 2ohm DVC Type R's. You can wire them in parallel/series configuration for a total impedence of 2ohms (each sub would get 300w). The BP600.1 is $189 - BP600.1

so besides price, which would everyone recommend? the alpine MRD-500, or the JBL B1200.1 to push the R-types?

I would recommend the BP1200. As everyone else is saying, it depends what impedence the subs will be wired to. If you are able to go down to 2 ohms, the JBL amp will have a lot more power, thus having more "headroom." You won't have to gain the amp up as high to get the same power, and will also have more power on tap for that pesky kid next to you at the stoplight. FWIW, the Alpine amp is still super badass if you are more interested in clean power with tons of adjustability. It's no punk!
Mushu's pretty cool too!
