There are organizations which fix/maintain cars of people who could not afford to do it themselves, and teach people basic maintenance skills (like checking fluids and tire pressures, and doing oil changes and changing bulbs and filters) so their cars can be more efficient and reliable.
However, I don't know if any in your area require you to be a licensed mechanic... some do of their volunteers.

I really like the Extreme Makeover show, but the host is quite possibly the most annoying person in the history of television.

I was sitting around writing an article last nite when this was on. I like the show, because they do some AMAZING things with the houses. (5400sqft was last nites, I believe!) But, its always got that tear-jerk effect that drives me nuts. =)
Kinda like the night a bunch of us guys were boring sitting around getting drunk and watched 'Radio'. Near the end the whole room was dead silence, no-one wanting to look anyone else in the eyes... :P
