For the past three decades, the livelihoods of ordinary Americans have become steadily less secure. Job stability has declined. Long term unemployment has become more common. Fewer workers receive health insurance benefits. Fewer workers receive pension benefits. Real wages have declined for lower income workers. Debt payments take an increasing greater portion of our incomes. Our standard of living has declined compared to many other nations: the people of Western Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada now live longer, have better overall health, and have a higher standard of living than Americans. Discuss. Von Mises Institute on the decline of our standard of living.

Andy W.
The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Must be why Americans are leaving the country in record numbers and immigration has completely haulted with the countries listed above being the most popular destination for emigrants. Oh wait those things aren't true.

Don't worry about it. Our society is evolving. As these things become more prevalent, things are done to counteract them.
We're in a transition from industrial to more & more a service based economy. Manufacturing jobs are fewer, & less stable as a result. Service careers are much more fluid by nature, so long term job stability is less of an issue as folks take advantage of better career/gowth opportunities.
There is a health revolution starting. From proper diet to health care & the equitable distribution of cost of healthcare. It's all coming.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

In fact, the number of Americans leaving the U.S. to live in other countries has about doubled in the last twenty years.
Out-migration increasing. Article showing amount of increase.

Of course immigration to America is increasing. There are about 3 billion people living in horrifying poverty in the third world; of course they want to come here. Our industry-driven immigration policies ensure a steady supply of cheap labor for American business.
It appears that you are arguing that the continuing flood of immigration to the U.S. somehow contradicts my original post re: our living standards. Very weak logic, Davo. The only thing proven by the large crowds immigrating to America is that there are lots of poor people in other places, and those people feel (correctly) they would be better off here.

Not a problem, I just had to throw my 2cents in as to the timeliness of the article since it isn't like things change in 9 years
