How do you choose the amp according to the sub specs. I am buying an amp for my Lambda 10", and you can buy a trillion watts, or too little wattage...Now, for SQ and the sub to operate at its best,,,how many watts should the amp push?
SPECS:

Assuming you're using the 4ohm SVC version of the PB10, I'd go with an amp that will produce 300w into a 4ohm load.
If you don't plan on adding another sub, you could get a 2ch amp (rated around 75x2 @4ohms stereo) and run it in bridged mono for around 300x1 @4ohms mono.
Or, you could get a mono sub amp. They're usually stable into 2ohm or lower loads. If you got something like a JBL BP600.1, it would produce 300x1 @4ohms. If you added another 4ohm SVC sub in parallel, it would produce 600x1 @2ohms (each sub would get about 300w).

I agree. If you're wiling to over power it.. sure. Just make sure you turn downt the gain and stuff. You'll get cleaner sound

I am driving the sub now with 160 watts....what would I be missing in performance? I dont go loud,,,just want the accuracy...but when I boosted the power to my components speakers, they did sound better and more detail came thru...although it is a Mcintosh,,,so i am not sure how much is the added power, and how much is the amps quality..

You want to at least hit the RMS rating of any sub if not push over it some. Too much amp power and your subs will suffer two ways. Either you will kick the cones and the VC's straight out of the basket, or, you will be turning the amp so far down that you will not have clean sound. The amp needs to work so that it can be as efficient as possible.
Underpowering can cause the same problems because now the amp will try to overcompensate for lack of power thus damaging the driver.
Make sure as well that you follow some good crossover points for your subs and get a good box.
A cap probably wouldn't hurt either. It helps with stable power. You have the battery charge the cap, amp gets constant 14.4 volts and is happy, car is happy cause it doesn't have to work so hard to keep up with the amp...and the A/C....and the highbeams...and the foglamps...and the underbody neon kit.....you get the picture.
Hope this helps Rich

This is a common misconception...You know, too little power damaging a speaker. What usually happens is the listener will try to overcompensate for lack of power by turning the gain on the amp all the way up and damage the driver. Too little power doesn't kill speakers...gain happy people kill speakers.

The PB seems to be just about right at 300W. Less power obvioulsly means clipping earlier, but with the PB 160W seems to go a long way.
