Go to superbrightleds.com. They have a LED bulb that plugs right in. You will want the #74 bulbs. But trust me, you won't be satisfied!

The stock gauges are made with an embedded green plastic, so it will always have green in the display. If you want to do it a different color check out the group buy section there is a group buy *trying* to get started for custom colored gauges.

trust me, I am yet to be satisified. They are extremely bright in spots, and don't cover the whole gauge cluster. I have used them in several cars and have given up on them. I know currently make my own using 5mm 10,000 MCD (perfect brightness to glow through the thick gauges.
As for MCD yes get a minimium of 4000. Phlop or I both sell LEDs. he can post his link. here is mine. http://iwired.us/leds/ The install is fairly easy with soddering gun. I can even make them for your. I also have a special way of making them shine in a 180 degree angle instead of the normal 15 degree or 45 degree produced by superbrights. The green around the speedo can be removed with a razor. Just be sure mark where you pull your needle off. The green around the rest of the gauges. Comes off, but is very hard. A company online produces color heat transfers. Which is the process the car companies to make gauges. They can make custom sets for 45-50 for the entire gauge cluster. I have a set in the works. And shipping is $10.xx. Once I know how good they are. I will post the link.

If you have pictures of the shaved off gauge backs I would love to see that. Not that I doubt you, but so I get a visual of what needs to be done.

I haven't shaved off the gauge backs, but I have done the part around the speedo. Someone else on here did the back of the gauges. also the hvac. I did it to my head light control piece and din't like my results. I did a horrible job. like wire cloth.

i just saw Walmart had some regular blue colored bulbs by Xenon White Lightning that'll replace the factory clear bulbs. a pair for just under $5, but you need 5 bulbs if you want the needles and the back of the gauges to glow blue. not sure how bright they are tho :\
