If the brake fluid boils during hard sustaind braking, you will loose brake pedal since fluid is compressable and air essentually is not.

Isn't it that air is compressable, and fluid is not? (i.e. air can be compressed) Just thought i'd clarify.

OK, I guess I need to review my rusty High School Physics. When you try to brake with vapor instead of fluid the calipers don't get the pressure needed to make them squeeze the rotors. I guess that you would be correct because a hydraulic system must function without compressing the medium. If there is an engineer in the group that better knows the correct verbage, please speak up.

Yes, brake fluid is nearly incompressible, while brake fluid vapor is highly compressible. This means that when you apply pressure to the system, the vapor will compress instead of moving out of the way, into the caliper. There should be no air in the system at all, I think you meant brake fluid vapor, which is a gas, like air.

And yeah, buy 4 SS brake hoses and flush/bleed the system. It's always a good idea, and from what I hear, the combination of new, clean fluid and stiffer lines means much better brake feel. It's on my to-do list.

Well I'm not an engineer but I think hydraulics deals with compression of an incompressible fluid. When the pistons activate there are a number of forces in action. The main one would be the kinetic coefficient of the contained atmosphere and the liquid. Obviously these two are dynamic.

-Edit: didn't read 95sleeper's response. As he stated, however do note that both are dynamic in terms of force application. (I love these thoughts, gives great MCAT practice! )

New stainless steel lines and fresh fluid will so dramatically improve both the pedal "feel" and the performance of your brakes that it will take you a week to get used to it.

I flush my brake system every year. I'm due for it in Arpil in fact. I also have some fresh SS braided lines to install.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I did this last year, and I didn't feel a "drastic" improvement, but there was improvement.

And with brakes, isn't ANY improvement good? Besides, SS lines are not too expensive and frikken HOT.

They add more HP to the wheels than yellow paint.

Recently I noticed that my right front brake was hanging up. The piston in the caliper had rusted and welded itself to the body of the caliper. I'm just lucky it didn't rust open. Water in old fluid will definetly cause this. My turn to change my fluid now too...
