Hello.
Right now I drive a 95 Contour SE and 93 Eclipse GSX. I'm selling the eclispe(its nice!!) and I'm torn between a SVT Focus or Contour. Yesterday I test drove a 02 Focus 3dr. It was amazing. Everything felt so... good. Felt every bit as fast as my SE, even more so. The handling was superb. If you couldnt tell, I loved it and almost bought it. I'm also curious about the SVT Contour. I love my 'tour's everyday usefullness and the SVT would match that. And the Contour's 200 hp would far outdo the 160ish of the focus. And I'm sure the tuned V6 puts a wee bit more tourque out. So handlingwise, how do these stack up? Gas milage? Cost to insure? Any input would be great.
Also, would any SVT 'Tour owners in michigan be willing to take me for a quick spin? They dont turn up for sale too much around here.
Thank you.

Focus. Handling is better. There is a turbo kit available and it's possible to run 12s in it. I like the way contours look better.

sell the tour you have now, then you can buy both SVT rides. i believe stock fsvt vs. csvt, the focus is faster, by a hair . there are a lot more aftermarket parts for the focus. you can probably get a fsvt still under warranty. the csvt is more practical. insurance, mpg, are probably very similar. i like them both and was considering them both when i was in the market. i really needed 4 doors so i went with the csvt. i couldnt find a fsvt 5door in my price range at the time. i did like those a lot too though.

I wouldn't say that. The Focus is lighter therefore more nimble, and the steering feel/response is far better than the Tour, but the Focus naturally has a higher center of gravity and that plays a part in the handling. Stock for stock, I'd say the CSVT edges it out a wee bit.

The Focus isn't faster than the SVT not by any type of hair. Sorry. It holds it's own, but it's not faster or quicker by any means.

get a focus. go into most auto parts stores and they only stock 10year and newer parts. you will be able to get parts for longer on a focus then u will be able to on a contour. + the fact that focus are still being made.

I was speaking from my experiences (not driving experiences, but experiences) with them. I guess you should know better though. I don't know how accurate this is, but even with the contour being faster, the focus is nipping at its lap times' heels. http://www.car-videos.com/performance/view.asp?ID1=23&ID2=96

Yeah, you're right. Like I said, the Focus does hold it's own. It takes to mods better to. A minimal amount of modding such as an SCT flash, intake, short shifter, and engine mount would make those times even closer. Nice website btw.
