Got a 95 Contour, 2.5 Duratec, Auto, 156K. I�m sure there is no correlation, but after replacing the rear wheel bearings, rear brakes, changing oil and rotating tires, it began to run poorly at low idle/speeds. Kind of a chugging. It doesn�t actually die, just sounds like it could. If I step hard on the gas in Park, it sounds as though it misses bad. I read through the posts and started with new plugs and TPS. It needed them, but it still didn�t fix the problem. I also noticed that I had knocked a wire off the air cleaner box, but I plugged that back in and it didn�t make a difference. I checked and rechecked for any vacuum leaks, but can�t find any. The latest symptom is poor gas mileage. I don�t know what it was getting before, but it�s now getting about 17mpg. I�m sure I was at least in the mid 20�s before.
Based on other posts, do you recommend fuel filter, fuel pump or plug wires? I don�t see any sparks from the plug wires, indicating a short. Also, at 3000+ RPM, seems to run fine, it typically just chugs at lower RPM.
