so these speakers are made for home use right? and if so, aren't they less durable when it comes to harsh weather?

Not necessarily. A pure paper cone and foam surround could be bad, but any treated paper and treated foam will outlast most peoples sub use. In the case of the lambdas, I see no durability issues witht he materials used.

for the most part, i dont think that it will make a huge difference. there are car audio subwoofers that use the same treated paper materials and other less durable materials found in some home audio subs, so id imagine it wouldnt be an issue. that, and i think the trunk is a slightly safer environment than the doors, so the midrange speakers are the ones that really get the environmental changes, the fastest temperature changes, the slamming doors, the moisture, etc..
so im sure the home sub will have no trouble at all
