Hey guys thanks for your replies.

I cleaned maf sensor using electrical cleaner didnt look dirty but sprayed it down anyways, I bought new oxygen sensor my car has to Im not sure which one is upstream which is downstream didnt see this in haynes manual . but one near fan on manifold is square plug and one under car on pipe is round the oxygen sensor that i ordered was round so i replaced it on pipe would only fit that one. Reset computer few hours later cel back on so i put old one back on and cut the wires on new o2 sensor and cut wires from plug and spliced them together this was for o2 sensor in engine bay exhaust manifold will this work ? No cel as of yet havnt drove it much yet, Why hell so many o2 sensors with these cars 98 ford contour se 4cyl

Well the Upstream O2 sensor is before the cat, and the downstream O2 is after the cat. As the exhaust flows, it first flows over the upstream one then the downstream one.

The first (upstream) sensor monitors fuel trim for the computer

The second (downstream) sensor monitors the performance of the catalytic converter.

For a V-6 under OBD-II (96 - on), this scheme is present for each bank of the motor.

The upstream o2 sensor reacts faster than the downstream o2 sensor.
Therefore, they are not compatible.
While what you have done may work, it is not the optimal solution.

Actually, the reason it switches slower is because it is infact reading slower changes in mixture (the cat is doing its job....)

However, they still are not the same..
