Just finished installin my Alpine 9833 and bypassed the amp. I turned on the HU while having it outside the dash to see if it works b4 putting it in. This is the 1st time I have powered this thing up and the display is all messed up. It looks like something to be wrong w/ the backlighting b/c every dot, dash, or icon is slightly lit. For ex. for numbers you would see all the lines to make an 8 (universal pattern for digital #'s) but like a number 2 would be lit up but then the rest of the dashes would also be slightly lit...so it looks like a bright 2 inside a dim 8.

Everything is like this on the display. I tried the contrast but that didnt really do anything. Also turning the lights on the car on or off (for dimming purposes doen't do anyhintg. Im lost. could mixing up a wire do this? Or havaing a recontent clock wired up to the same harness that is used to the CD player cause this?

P.S. there are 2 little LED type lights below the "4 main buttons". The one on the left that "lights when the equilizer, crossover, and time correction (bass focus) are set to anything other than factory default" was blinking when i had it on. Dont know itf this means anyhting.

Need help. thanks

Not to hijact this thread but what's the purpose in bypassing the stock amp? I just installed a new HU but kept my amp hooked up as well. Whats the benefit in bypassing it?

factory amp is garbage, bypassing it to use an aftermarket HU's amp is a good decision.

First, the HU should be on it's own power source. I actually run a dedicated fused wire myself as I won't have any doubts that way that it was done right.

That said, check all your connections one more time, and if the problem persists, you may be one of a select few of us who ever had a bad Alpine product. Exchange it asap.

yes as Honkeytonk said..stock amp is terrible

Yes I wired a dedicated line for mine as well i belive its 8 or 10 gauge has a 30 amp built it fuse in the power wire and then a 15amp fuse built into the Alpine power wire that I spliced into (thats what your supposed to do per Alpine). The amp kit i bought for this dedicated wire can handle up to 250watts which is plenty sufficient for this HU.

Honkeytonk, do you have an Alpine HU? Maybe I'm just not used to it, i dunno. I mounted it into its dash port and I guess its a little bit better. On yours do you see the background (non-lit) icons or numbers at all? I can see everything faintly and then what should be lighted is a decent bit brighter. I changed the font to the "bold" and it made it a little better. Is this normal for Alpine and just something I need to get used to? Or is there something wrong.

every pic I've seen of this HU on (Alpine's website, Crutchfield, etc.) only the letters/numbers etc. that is supposed to be displayed are displayed brightly....the rest of the display is solid black (i.e you can't see other icons/unlit numbers). In other words in the pics you wouldn;t even know the other icons, unlit items were there b/c the rest of the screen is black besides what is supposed to be lit up.

On mine everything seems to be dimly lit and the things that are supposed to be displayed are a decent amount brighter, but you can still see the rest of the stuff. Like I said I don;t know if this is normal or normal for Alpine or whether I save something messed up here or a defective HU. Any advice, tips, etc would be apreciated.

Thanks

"Or havaing a recontent clock wired up to the same harness that is used to the CD player cause this? "

un do that, and check the dimmer wire, I don't ever wire the dimmer on aftermarket HU's, it's bad juju.
