I just purchased a used 2000 Contour SVT and for whatever reason the previous owner had the previous SVT stock tire size on the car. The web reads that a 2000 had 215-50-16 and the tires on the car meet the 1998 205-55-16 fit. I want to stay with stock rims, but I'm unsure about the tire size. Also...through me some advice on a good set of tires...preferrably ones that don't hydro.

Are you from the Houston,TX area? I've met someone in the League City looking to sell his CSVT. Is that the car? Anyways, I have the BFGoodrich Traction T/A's and put them through the test during a hard T-storm last summer and they performed very well, nearly comparable to the Firestone SZ 50 EP's which are no longer made and were a very good dedicated summer tire with awesome handling in the wet. A good source for reseach is www.tirerack.com Look for Luke's extension/email if you have more questions, he knows what he is talking about.

What type of driving do you do? I think 225 is too wide for a 6.5" rim. I run 205/50R16 on 16x7s, and they fit very nicely. I would reccommend that size for a sportier feel, and 205/55 for a little more cushion. I just got Fuzion ZRi tires, they are suppossed to be very good: I'll review them as soon as I get them on. They're only $73 ea. from tirerack, and from waht I hear they are at least as good as the highly esteemed Yoko AVS ES100. If you have money to spend, ask someone else, these are all bargian tires... Goodyears or Perellis are $$$, but very nice.

Yes, I live on 290 @ 1960. Different car, this guy lived off I-10 just east of beltway 8. I love tirerack.com, it's the best all around tire site on the web! What do you mean by "Luke's extension/email"?

205/50/16 was never a stock size.
My E0 98 SVT came with 205/55R16 Goodyear GSC.
Currently I have 225/50ZR16 Dayton Daytona ZR tires on it. They are the best tires I have had on it. They handle well, do well in the rain, and wear better than anything else I have had on it. Dayton is a Bridgestone brand. In fact, my tires say made in Japan on them. They are also available in 205/55RZR16.
The 215/50R16 size is a bit unusual and does not provide nearly as much selection as either the 205/55 or the 225/50. The 205/55 and the 225/50 are the same diameter but the 225/50 is about 3/4" wider.
At the same time, the 215/50 is slightly smaller in diameter than the 205/55 and nearly 1/2" wider.
Any of those three sizes will work well.

Luke is a good sales rep at the Tire Rack. He was, at one time, a mod here on the Wheel and Tire Forum. Give him a call, tell him what you want in a tire and he will give you some good suggestions. You can get his phone extension and e-mail from the Tire Rack website.

215/50/16 is a very difficult size to buy as not many companies make them.
205/55/16 is a fine size to run and is about equally sized in height.
SVT wheels are 16x6.5, no matter E1 or E0 wheels. So both sizes are fine to run.
Popular size to run on this board are:
225/50/16 225/45/16
More popular as their are a lot of choice in these sizes.
