Thinking about switching to it for my business.. Phone line, Fax Line, 800#, all the major features (call waiting, 3-way, voicemail, etc), with scalability options, the ability to add other numbers in other area codes that route to your main #, etc.. It sounds pretty slick.

Main # + fax # + 800#, with 1500 mins, all for $45/month. Anyone use it? How's the sound quality? Likes/dislikes?

i have it and love it. the sound quality so far is fine. really the only problem i've had (and this is just recently) is that people will sometimes get a busy signal when they try to call me... even if i'm not on the phone. i haven't looked into it yet to find out what the problem is.

I got it last week. So far I am very pleased. The sound quality is much better than a standard land line and I don't get that pesky message telling me that I forgot to dial 1 when I call long distance, they dial 1 for you. I have the unlimited residential plan for $24.99 per month. They even send you an email when you get a voicemail message. But whatever you do, do not buy the equipment retail. If you do then Vonage will charge you a $60 activation fee. If you go directly through them, the startup fee is only $10 and they give you the equipment for free.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

My only hesitation about making the switch is the lack of 911 service. Current provider is Time Warner Cable, $45/mo flat rate. Even at $45, any internet based phone solution saves you all the junk tax fees tacked on to land lines.

I've got Comcast, and I know they're about to roll out their own VOIP solution, but I doubt it'll be competitive.. I currently pay around $65/month for my phone line and fax line.. The 800# costs even more on top of that. Plus the 1500 mins of free LD is a nice perk.

As for 911, I heard that Vonage asks for your location and programs it so you can dial 911.. If not, I still have a cell phone for emergencies.

As for 911 service, all you have to do is go on into your account online and fill out a form with all your contact info. When you dial 911 the call is intercepted by Vonage customer service and your call is automaticly forwarded to your local PD. Its all computerized so the call is forwarded in less than a second. I tried it all ready, just to see how well it worked.

I have had Vonage for about 6 months now and I really like it. the only hitch I had was when they were porting over my existin phone # it took them like 3 months, but I never got charged for anything until it was done. We then found out it was Sprints fault not Vonage.

You can take the module with you wherever you go and use it like it you were at home, just cahnge the 911 location when you arrive. You can also keep whatever phone # you setup with them, even if you move out of state.

I think you should get it, well worth the money. I save about $50 over my local Sprint service I had

Bill Jenkins I am moving to Team Ford as of 08/01/05 (www.teamfordlv.com). I will post new info when it's ready.

It's gotten a lot better in the last day or so. Still a bit of loss here and there, but much better than when we started out. I have enough bandwidth that I can set it to the highest setting.

I had a tech from my ISP look at how much bandwidth it was using while I was talking to him over Vonage, and it was rock steady at 46.2kbps (upload). I have it set at the middle quality setting, so it should be using 50kbps accoring to Vonage. At first I was wondering if it was a good idea, but I think the kinks will be worked out in time. It's a realtively new technology, and you have to remember that I am accessing this over a 802.11b broadband connection 1/4 mile from my house. No wires for me! High tech rocks!
