I just bought an Alpine 7998 last Thursday and got around to installing it(sort of) this past Thursday. The good news: all my equipment is in working condition and everything plays after sitting for some time in my closet. Now the bad news and info for anyone thinking of installing this head unit or the 7897. IT WILL NOT FIT THE CONTOUR WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS. I put it in the stock location and unfortunately, there isn't enough clearance for it to open. It hits the plastic trim piece right below the heater/ac controls. I am currently in the process of modifying the piece so that it will fit. I just thought everyone might like to know what their in for if they decide to buy one. BTW, from the little time I've played with it, I love it! The display is easily the best Alpine display ever! Bright, easy to read. I'll post more after I actually get it installed.

The stereo now fits. I took off the piece that surrounds the radio and HVAC controls. I moved the radio opening down about 1/4", filled in the gap with fiberglass and bondo, sanded and repainted the piece with semi-flat black paint.
