I seem to be going through rotors like crazy, get the machined 3 times a year then replace when needed Im sick of this [censored]. Do the SVT size rotors fix this problem or am I going to have to go bigger. If so are the couger rotors and brakets the same as the svt. Im tryin not to spend to much. 98 Contour LX 2.5 MTX 4 Wheel Disk Brakes.

are your calipars bad??? or do you ride the brakes alot?? i can keep a set of rotors for a year and a half easy....anyways some cougars came with the bigger front brakes 278mm...same as the later model svtc's, the early model svt's had the same size rotor but a bigger calipar....good luck finding them, for a reasonable cost, even through bill jenkins the calipar bracket,so i could just use my current calipars, was around 95 dollars..

Two cars , lots of rotors......I'm begining to think its the Quality of rotor thats the problem(for me). I've seen them made from China to the USA. Quality has to be different. I'm thinking KVR , Brembo etc..... I know a Rotor from NAPA for an SVT is 73.00 each and a Brembo is $$$$$$. As that TV commercial said , "You can pay me now or you can pay me later!"

If you have the right calipers you'll be able to just get the offset brackets and run the stock calipers. BUt you need the right calipers first off!!!! look at your calipers on the backside of the piston housing it should be finned, if it is you got the later smaller/cheaper calipers. order some V6 four wheel disc cougar caliper brackets. get some 278mm rotors and your set. I'd reccomend gicing the Stazi rotors/pads a try. I haven't hear anything bad about them...kinda wish I bought them instead of the KVR's.

I have had problems with made in china rotors on other cars, usually not lasting not much longer then 15k miles before they warp. I have had good luck with my cross drilled rotors so far, no warping and less brake fade:)

you lost me here...i was under the impression that the later csvts used the same front calipar that all contiques used up front??? they just had a larger mounting bracket to clear the larger rotor, am i wrong?? if so this whole time i've been thinking that all i need is the calipar bracket off of one of those cars, and that it would work with my 96 se front calipars.....

Yes the later(newer) csvts used the same caliper as non- csvts but used a bracket that had more offset to clear the larger rotors. No you where correct there. I don't think your 96 se calipers will work.....like I said before when looking at the backside of the calipers is the piston housing finned? I know the csvts came with 2 different types of calipers the older(early98 EO) and the newer(98+ E1)
Does that make anymore sense

a little, although i was just going by what the bat sight says, they show the e0 brake pads, and then they show the 99.5 and later brake pads, saying that they are the same as non svt brake pads, and they also sell a kit which comes with the mounting brackets...it doesnt specify whether or not it will work with certain years, just says that it allows you to use your current calipars.....oh well, i'm looking at the wilwood set anyways, after buying new calipers, new rotors, hoses, etc its really not that much more

Let's clear this up. I have been involved with a few of these conversions.
The late SVT front calipers are the same as the non SVT front calipers. They require a unique caliper bracket. The early SVT uses a different caliper and another unique bracket.
What is needed to install the larger rotor on your SE is the caliper bracket from a late SVT or a 99 and newer Cougar with the large brakes (most if not all of the V6 Cougars had the same front brakes as the late SVT).
The factory 15" wheels fit over the larger brakes. Your spare tire will not so you will either need to use the spare on the rear and move a rear to the front if you have a front flat or you will need to get a spare from an SVT or a Cougar. The spare from a Focus may fit as well and would be worth checking out.
The larger rotors do wonders to helping the rotors to last longer as well as improving braking quality. It is a very worthy upgrade.
