Hey guys- sorry if this has been posted/asked here before- Im really short on time (working too much hehe) so I have little time to troll through the forums (which are quite large) to find something like this-

Car moosing at 3700rpm... likely culprit, IMRC unit is finally fried- I don't think it's anything else, as I've done just about everything else to fix it. Ordered a new IMRC unit today- Ford told me they wanted $300 and some chump change to install it- Looks like a few bolts and cables to me but is there anyone who has a run through on removing and installing a new IMRC?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I don't think its that hard. I would think once you have the UIM off its pretty easy to do. Getting the UIM off/on is pretty easy and doesn't take too long. I might be wrong though, as there may be more to replacing the IMRC. But, I seriously doubt it would be THAT hard.

Wow... moosing because of an IMRC.. hmm...

never heard of that before..

I would seriously look in to other things before dropping that much money on an IMRC, but that would be me..

I also question the diagnosis. I don't see how the IMRC would cause that.

There is no need to remove the intake manifold to change the IMRC box. I found it necessary to remove the throttle body, but others have posted that they did not need to. They must have smaller hands then mine. Unbolting the box from the front valve cover is easy. Undoing the other end of the cable below the valve body is not so easy.

Anyone wanting $300.00 labor to do that job is either inexperienced or he is a thief. Either way I would not want him working on my car. Even taking the throttle body off it should not take over 1/2 hour.

I managed to swap the IMRC on my old car without unbolting the throttle body or UIM. I almsot broke down and took the TB off when I managed to pop on of the retainers off.

I found installing it easier then taking the old off.

replaced mine a week ago, very easy. i recommend having a pair of longnose pliers and a long, thin flatblade screwdriver on hand. it's much easier to see & work with the throttle body & air filter box out of the way. look over the cable clips and cable ends on the new one carefully for guidance before removing the old one.

contours, deloreans & fiats, oh my!

I've had the IAT after cleaning (have no idea what I did) I had moosing. Had never had it before 98 Mystique LS bought new 08/97. So it has all the revised intake tuning hoses/pipes.
Removed IAT again - cleaned it very carefully reseated the hoses- PFM or as we use to say at the phone company CCWSA (came clear while scratching). Yes this is a very touchy area.
I do have the secondary IMRC throttle stop opened 3/4 turn.
We use to call that something??? cracking the ????. If anything I thought that made it less susceptible.
