Weird thing is happening when I turn on the right-turn signal. The blinker on the dash blinks about twice as fast as it should [the left turn blinks normaly]. The rear signal doesn't flash at all while the front blinker blinks twice as fast [just like the indicater inside].
Well, I was on my way to get a replacement light bulb [I figured the bulb was out] but it 'fixed itself'. I start driving back, it stops working again. It's been turning on and off for a few days now. I think it might be something more serious than just a light bulb - like faulty wiring [it's been raining pretty hard]. Any ideas? I really don't want to get a 'fix it' ticket.. who wants to take a chance with cops!

Did you replace the bulb? The bulb may either be loose or defective. Just go ahead and replace it if you haven't already.
It very well may fix your problem.
If it doesn't then you may have a wiring problem, and unless you're handy with car electrical systems and have some electrical testing equipment, I'd take it to a mechanic.
Your turn signal switch may be bad also, but I doubt it.

Replace the bulb. This has been a somewhat common thing for Contours. It drove me nuts while my car was under warranty since it would not act up for the technicians. I finally replaced the bulb myself and the problem was gone. About a year ago it happened again, with the other rear bulb.
Most likely the bulb will solve your problem. If it does, you don't need to go down that uncertain path of "what could it be?"

Well it's been working fine for three days now so if it ain't broke don't fix it, but if it stops working again I'll replace the bulb. Originally posted by Pope: don't forget the blinker fluid, always need blinker fluid.

Actually, it isn't a joke... Its okay, I was new once, too.. The housing of the rear lights is surrounded by a fluid. It runs completely around the housing, on the outer edge. It is(was) meant as a filtration medium to keep dirt and debris from entering into the housing itself. Once the fluid become filled with dirt particles, it loses its surface tension, allowing the fluid to drain outwards along the lower seephole in the housing. (you can see the seephole as a small indention/hole in the rubber seal on the bottom of either taillight. A quick refill of fluid will replenish the over cleanliness of the fluid, which in turn allows the fluid to have greater surface tension, and will no longer leak through the seephole (since the vacuum created inside is strong enough to hold water when it is clean.. but dirt molecules make it heavier...)When this outer canal becomes older or cracked it can also leak, causing dirt buildup within the unit, and premature wear. Pep Boys does not carry it, but O'Rielly's does, for one (anyone know anywhere else that does?). The FORD part number is C3DZ-ID-10T. Don't let these guys get you in a heap of trouble, CEG is known for giving "JUST ENOUGH INFO" without following up on what can ACTUALLY help... SHAME ON YOU CEG... Ray
