So i noticed a loud swishing sound this morning when the car was cold. I poppped the hood and sure enough it is coming from the belt. 2 places, one at the idler pulley, and one at the A/C compressor. The idler pulley faded away, but the AC compressor kept swishing. Now this will sound stupid, but i was trying to figure out whether the pulley itself was moving or not, i was afraid it was ceased. So i spit on it. Vwahla, the noise was gone. It came back a little later though. So i am assuming my drive belt is going? This probably accounts for the mysterious blower whine noise i have been getting in the mornings when the engine is cold.

Sounds like the belt, you'll notice that the noise should get quieter as the engine heats up. I like that "handy man approach" to figuring out solutions. If somethin's acting up, spit on it!

I got the sepentine belt replaced, but I still get the fan whine in the morning. Any ideas? also at high rpms, I get a vibration from my pipes, more like a rattling like metal on metal. Any ideas guys?

V6 I assume? My w/p belt goes nuts on cold mornings, sounds like a laser gun, but it goes away w/in a few minutes of running. I've replaced the belt to no avail, so i just live with it.
