Hello all. I just had a quick question. I enjoy occasionally drag racing the v6 mustangs and camaros and i was just curious how much abuse the engine and transaxle will take before they start going bad. I have the ATX and 2.5 Duratec. I drive the car fairly easily most of the time, and maintain the car very well. I was just curious about the overall durability of the drivetrain. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's hard to say. I do a little stoplight racing, but I wouldn't call it drag racing. I don't spin the tires or anything.

Anyway I've got 140,000 miles on the original clutch & engine and she still runs strong. I think the ATX is supposed to be stronger than the manual, if maintained properly.

One really bad thing that can happen with our engines is oil starvation on long hard sustained turns. I forget whether it was right or left turns though.

I always heard the other way. Stock ATX and stock MTX and both properly maintained, the MTX was better.

The CD4E would be a great transmission if they came with a trannie cooler right from the factory.

The CD4E just isn't a "drag racing" transmission. You don't want to even think of neutral-dropping it, and you've really got to commit to pushing the gas pedal through the floor to get to redline before it shifts. If it had the external cooler and CD4EJr. kit installed, then I guess you could really hammer it, but you know, you pay to play. That's why I never wanted to autocross my Contour.

Well I guess it's the spider gears in the MTX you have to worry about.
