hi guys i was wondering i have my car a the shop to check my mounts because i have a lot of vibration in drive my mechanic says the mounts are good but he notice that the belt tensioner is not working properly so he says that's what causing the excessive vibration have any one had this promblem with the tensioner making the engine vibrate 97 contour gl 4cycl 97,865 all power

Hi, something about that dosen't sound right. If it was a belt tensioner you would most likely see a power loss in steering ability, alternator output etc...due to a loose belt/ belt tensioner. I would think that if you had a bad/worn tensioner you would be able to feel it even at idle(or revving the engine at a standstill in neutral) since the tensioner could be slopping around on its mount. your vibration could be a worn CV axle, or a suspension part. Did they check those parts?? good luck, Jim

does it vibrate in drive when you have the brake pedal in?

it vibrates sitting at a light but when you give it gas no vibration

Do that only when you have it in drive?
Does it also do that when you have it in park?

Might be a simple idle control valve issue giving you a low idle. I'd consider finding a different shop...

i have ben trying for a year to resolve this issue i thought it would be the mounts i replaced all 4 of them the bellt was jumping all over the place so he is going to take belt off and see what it will do then we have tryed everything what's your idea on this issue for a engine excessive vibration just sitting at a lite and the whole dash and sterring wheel vibrating????

Does it only do it in Drive? If so, EGR valve could be clogged.

update found out it was the rear tranny mount it was squashed all up put a new insert in and tremble free
