Not to long ago I replaced the hu in the SVT withe a kenwood KDC-MP8017 mp3 player. It's not the greatest but it's what I got. I put a 12" shiva sub in the trunk powered by a JBL BP 1200.1.
What I want to do now is put some 6.5" components up front and probably just disconnect the rear doors. I've been reading through past posts and many of you give high marks to the focals and the mb quarts. Which focal or mb quart or other kits or actuall speakers do you recommend. I'm looking for the model number or name.
Also I could use some suggestions on what type of amp to power the components. If you guys can suggest any other set of components and amp please let me know. I'm looking to spend around 500 maybe a little more if it's worth it for the amp and components. Is this enough money to make my car finally sound like it should (with the shiva already in the trunk).
Sorry so long winded
Cheers

JOHN E Hey John, its very strange. I was just reading your original Shiva post not more then 10 minutes ago and was wondering what happened to you.... What are your plans? Would you consider a kick panel install? Are you handy with a soldering iron?

editted post 6.5" components doh
Yeah I'm handy with the tools (so to speak)
I enjoy installing and fabricating things just hate the f ing shopping part.
I'd consider the kick pannels but am pretty clueless about the cost involved in those. I figured just throwing in some nice components would be the easy way, but like I said I'm pretty clueless as to what to buy. Doing my research now.
Let me know what you think, and I'll search a little on the kick panels.
By the way the Shiva kicks ass, might get another one for that big amp in the trunk.

Done a little more research. Kick panels sound like the way to go but I'm not really able to undertake the trouble of building them right now as I'm stuck away from home with limited tools for the next 6 months (military training bs).
I'm gonna pull the panels and get a first hand look this weekend, but me thinks mounting the 6.5 mid and tweet in the door some how are the way to go. I may try and build some way to angle the mid and tweet up but not sure how much room I have to work with back there.
So what's the model of the focal and mb quarts or others everyone is using? Best bet for the amp looks like ppi from what I have read but I'm open for suggestions.
Anyone know how much work/time goes into the kick panel fab. I may give a shot at it.
What about cross overs, do they usually come with the components or is it best to build them myself. I've never done it before but I can follow dirrections pretty well.
Cheers

These CSc 60s are my speakers. I love them. Last years can be had for a bit cheaper. Hit some local shops and see what suits you tastes. Bring some of your favorite disk or Enya and the Gladiator sound track to "hear" the difference. If you like the new Infinity refernce series you'll love the crystals. Amps; well not sure how you ARE going to run your system! PPI PCX-440 Nakamichi PA-1004 a/d/s P450

I'm not sure which quarts are the popular ones here, but I would probably advise a different route.
The speakers Tony mentioned are very nice from all accounts and could be a great way to go. I'm looking around for other options, i'll try to post somehting tomorrow.

No rush,
I'm open to all options.
Tony did you mount yours in the doors. Did you put the tweet on the plate with the mid or flush mount some where.
What amp are you using?

I mounted them in the doors, Looks like this with the speaker at the top and the tweeter on the bottom. You can angle mount the tweeters as well.

ok, i have been trying to find a nice little combo of components and here is one option i would check out. it would require some homemade crossovers. 2 of these . and 2 of these . And a homemade crossover. that will cost somwhere around 300.00 total. Leaving you with 200.00 to get a nice amp.
