I am looking at getting a 3L Escape, and as I have to ship it some distance, I am curious are there any heavy bits I can do without? For example, the exhaust manifolds, I have MSDS headers, so dont need these stock items.

Can anyone else think of something else that might be heavy I can do without?

I don't think taking some of the items off the engine are going to make a big difference in the weight or cost. Is the engine being shipped to you from a salvage yard? They usually just send the engine with the parts on that take too long to take off. Time is money for those guys. My engine came with one side exhaust header and i think the power steering pump and thats it. The wiring harness was cut right at the engine as were all water hoses. The weight was a little over 200lbs (from what i remember) and it was shipped by some random trucking company from California to Montana for $175US. Hope this helps and good luck with your swap!

Yea you will probably pay more to have them take things off that arnt going to make much difference, than you would with just shipping the whole thing.

I've been able to trade unwanted parts off an engine for other stuff from the local junkyard. It can more than offset the price of shipping a few extra pounds if you do that.

Thanks for all the replies, and not flaming the newbie 3L poster .

If this goes ahead, I will be posting plenty more for HELP!!! (after doing the proper searches of course).

I have been reading up on 3L swaps since I joined the site, so I am somewhat clued up and aware of most of the issues.

Hoping to have the first 3L Mk1 Mondeo in Ireland.

Cool, I knew you'd go over to the dark side eventually.
