Was ready to install a brand new Bosal stainless cat back system, and shop recommended I do not, due to proximity of high pressure fuel lines to pipes and y joint under rear of car. Clearance was only one inch or less. Recently had dealer install new fuel pump). Has anyone encountered this issue? I spend a lot of time in long traffic jams, so the heat rising from the exhaust could pose a risk. Is it worth trying to relocate the fuel lines? The Bosal exhaust supposedly fits my 2000 SE, although it is designed mostly for the SVT. Suggestions?

????

So I guess that the guts that have installed an SVT cat back on their non SVT are going to have trouble?

There have been a lot of them installed with no trouble. Why should yours be the first?

Sounds like Bosal and all aftermarket exhaust systems have a lawsuit on their hands. Take it to another shop.

Jim,

Appreciate hearing that. Am in process of getting second shop opinion. The Bosal looks impressive; would think it will perform as such. I will look at feasibility of relocating the fuel lines as a possible mitigation step. Also going back to the supplier and Ford dealer for input--would the SVT have different fuel line plumbing to accomodate the duals it has from the factory?. Best to be thorough.

Eric,
Please come back down to Planet Reality.

You don't have to change fuel lines and/or move anything.
The SVT and non-SVT variants have IDENTICAL fuel lines, and the exhaust comes nowhere near them anyway. In any case they are steel lines, so unless your exhaust somehow is glowing red-hot and setsthe underside of the car on fire by some freak occurance - your concern is unwarranted.

Find someone who knows their ass form a hole in the ground to install you ehaust or do it yourself. Sounds like they were feeding you a line a crap to get more money out of you or they just didn't want to do the job.

The only difference in the SVT-and non-SVT is the fact that the SVT has an extra muffler hanger on the pass. side. All you need is to buy this part from the dealer (or get an exhaust shop that is good to make uone up)and you can hang ANY SVT exhaust on a non-SVT.

Thanks. It appears the lines I was referring to are the gas tank vent lines. I was advised to tie them out of the way with Zip ties. You are right--I need to find a muffler tech who is knowledgeable.

All else fails, you can always fab a heat shield. Just cut & bend a chunk of junk yard shield, then drill mounting holes in the appropriate location. Problem solved. The stock SVT passenger side muffler comes with a heat shield attached doesn't it??

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
