Alright, I am not the most computer savy, but I can get my way around a little. Anyways, I have been trying to DL upgraded drivers for my Ati product. I have had nothing but problems with this DL. To make a long story short I had to restore my system using th system disks, as it only wanted to boot up in safe mode for a while. I downloaded the ATI cat.unistaler program to totaly remove the previous drivers(ati recommended), and tried downloading the three files,
Dao,tv/video drivers and multimedia center. I received a error message: unable to load sql server odbl driver resource dll, anyone ever heard of this? Ati claims they can do nothing and say its a Microsoft software issue. I can't justify a $35 a phone call to MS. Here is my system:

2000 Hp Pavillion
WinMe
P3 800mgz
190 mb ram
Usb sound card(internal still hooked up)
factory video card(nvidia)
ATI tv wonder pro

The old software worked fine, but had no sound on capture video. I may just go back to using that, but I would realy like to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for any help.

Well the first thing I would probably do is check for any viruses or spyware that may be lurking on your system. Next I would check the windows update site to make sure everything is up to par. Most of the time windows actually can download and install the updated drivers needed for your hardware. Also, make sure your other sound card and video card are disabled in your BIOS. You can also try uninstalling the old drivers manually from Windows Explorer and the registry. If all else fails, reformat and start from scratch.

My advice is use the older MMC7.6 drivers. I've had nothing but problems with the version 8 and 9. As a matter of fact version 9, even when installed didn't work correctly.

Realy, thats intresting. The only problem I had with 8.5(I think), was no sound on captured video. Which irritated me beyon beleive. My main reason for calling Ati was that, now I can't even get the factory software to even load from cd .

ATI's driver issues are the main reason I will only purchase nVidia cards for now. I can even get their cards at staff pricing since quite a few people I know work there and thier Office/Development Center is just down the road from me, but the driver problems I've had with them is enough for me to not take my firends up on thier offers

I'm running a ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and haven't have a problem with it or the drivers. To me it sounds like you may have a system problem but thats just my take on it. I am partial to WinXP over the earlier versions. Depending on your application, you can easily just purchase the components and build a computer yourself. Pretty cheap these days and not too hard. If you can install hardware, you can build a computer.

I would not say that you have to reformat and start from scratch, generally if you can get into Windows you can fix it.

If you restored from your restore disks, I would imagine that this is what probably happened anyway ... if you lost your data then it is.

As far as drivers go ... did you have any problems with the original drivers from when you restored?
If at all possible, try and get your PC back to the point where it last worked.
If you can send me the exact message that comes up when you get this error, along with what software you have installed I should be able to formulate a fix for you.

By the way, reformatting hard disks is generally a last ditch effort. It's kind of like taking your car in and being told you need to replace your tranmission, when in fact it can be rebuilt for less.

Well I figured re-formating is last ditch, but I am lost and others seem to be as well. Its most definitly a problem with my system not my ATI, at this point anyway. Since I get the same error message when trying to load the original software it came with.. I am sending you a pm. I appreceate any help. Thanks guys

I had the same problems with the 8/.5 drivers, I gave the card to my mom 8500DV, just wasn't working out anymore. She doesn't have any problems with the older drivers. I have since upgraded and just said screw watching tv on my computer.
