I'm looking to change my car's head unit and only have about 200-250$ to throw at it. Considering I don't think that I'll be changing the speakers anytime soon, if at all. Here's what I'm looking for:
-around 160 watts and up -single CD playback -simple operation (no light shows please!) -don't need RCA outputs or Changer controller -obviously, quality! -excellent AM/FM reception
Brands I prefer, but will not limit myself to: Sony, JVC, Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion
Any advice will help! PS: models should be available in Canada!

Clarion I have the 2000 model and I love it. With the CeNET controls you can add anything to it and cotrol it through the head unit ( CD changer, TV's, EQ, etc.).
1998 Silver Frost SVT Purchased 01/10/02 Mods so far: -Fidanza aluminum flywheel -Clutch upgrade -Clarion ProAudio system, DSP, 13 Band EQ
Future mods: -Intake upgrade -Performance plug wires -Autolite double platinums -Konig 18 X 7.5 Toxxin's -Koni's and Eibach coil overs -Rockford amps, 3 12" Rockford subs, etc.. (Just needs to be installed)

for the money, i would say you cant beat pioneer. its got solid sound, lots of options and decent price. the DEH 6400 is a really nice deck if you can find it in your price range. you should be able to get it for about 250$ without too much trouble. some other nice things it has are built in subwoofer crossover/controls, nice bright display, remote, 50Wx 4 power, etc. the radio reception and cd sound are both pretty nice too
thats what id suggest
also, hate to say it, but i havent been happy with the reliability of kenwood decks in the past. too bad, i like kenwood, ah well

I love Pioneer. Very nice HU, but you won't find them for $150. For $150 I would go with the Nakamichi; I have heard good things about the HU.
