Definitely don't go with DLink. I bought a DI-624 Wireless G router with their "Turbo" service (108Mbps). For the first year it worked fine, but then it started rebooting itself every few minutes. I RMA'd it back to them, but the new one has its own issues as well.

Check SlickDeals.net or any of the other online deal sites for good deals.

one thing I do hate about Linksys is that they refuse to release any Linux drivers for their hardware. Although I have gotten around this, it would be nice to have some offically supported drivers when I decide to boot up FC3.

With my wireless signal I'm getting 48-54mbps consistently so I'm sure I'm okay with signal strength.

But just incase I want to test out the 3rd party firmware that you guys were talking about where can I find it?

Also kinda off topic but I've got WEP encryption on and I've heard its easy to hack into the network when SSID is on. Should this be turned off?

I would definitely recommend Linksys, they are made by Cisco!

This has more to do with chipsets versus some vendor writing specific drivers. I'd find a wifi card with the atheros chipset and stick with the madwifi driver. Out of 3 different vendor cards (linksys a/b/g, dlink b/g, and SMC b/g), I've had no trouble with madwifi.

A good place to start for 3rd party firmware is here

WEP + MAC filtering + SSID broadcast OFF provides 'decent' protection. If you wanna mess around with WPA, you can grab the wpa_supplicant drivers to sit on top of madwifi.
