I have been getting the moosing noise on cold mornings and it usually goes away when the engine has been good and warm for a while. It hasn't stalled on me yet, but I want to get this fixed before that happens. I ordered a new EGR valve, but they didn't send a gasket with it. I would think for 85 bucks you would get one, but my fault for not remembering to ask. The FAQ here also mentions a tube assembly? Do I need this tube assembly or is it recommended? If I do need it, I will order it tomorrow along with a gasket. Thanks for any help.

You mean IAC valve?? Not EGR, Correct??

No, they do not include a gasket with the IAC valve. It is only ~$2 (IIRC) from the stealership anyways.

As for the tube, I guess I wouldn't replace it unless you had to. I can't really see a rubber hose going bad.

uh oh, I actually bought an EGR valve. Isn't that the round thing on top of the engine around towards the back around the master cylinder area? Did I buy the wrong part?

The EGR has a metal tube going to it and is round on top.

The IAC has a rubber hose going to it that connects with the accordian tube.

That supply hose has a resonator that may need to be changed.

What year?

Definitly the IAC valve. The EGR valve would just make you CEL pop on intermitantly to piss you off. A bad IAC valve sounds like a freaking foghorn on cold mornings. And make sure you don't shear off one of the bolts when trying to remove it because of no clearance for the socket.

Sorry for not giving the info. previously. It's a 99 Contour SE sport with the V6. I went to the dealer and they had to order the IAC valve, gasket and tube assembly. They said I can exchange the EGR valve at that time. How did it cost anybody else who had to buy one? They said my total will be around 110-120 bucks for those parts. Thanks for the help guys.

I thought they were a bit cheaper than that... Got any local junkyards with V6 contours??

You may want to try cleaning it out first as that would be the cheapest way to go and there's certainly no harm in trying to clean it...

Use carb/tb cleaner and clean out the inside, it will likely be gunked up with carbon. I like Valvoline's synthetic carb/tb cleaner. It works very well.

I think what I will do is install the new one and clean out the old one. Then when the new one screws up, I'll just swamp them out and clean that one. Then I'll always have a replacement handy and since I already ordered it I'll have to pay for it. The guy told me the parts are high for that car in general. Thanks for the help.
