Holy Jesus man! Go with the 2,000 SVT, those are somewhat rare, and one in good condition is hard to find! Who can argue with 200 horsepower with a 5-speed tranny, cheap sedan-oriented insurance rates, all-leather interior, a sunroof, and power EVERYTHING?? And 20,000 miles less than the VW? And a better price tag?

I personally have an affinity for VW's (rally-style Bugs really more than anything), but this choice is honestly a no-brainer, and anything you want to know can be supplied quickly by any of the many SVT owners (like me) on this site!

If you go with the 'tour, then welcome aboard!

The Contour is a never ending road of mods. Once you do one thing it leads to another. I'm telling ya, you'll have so many mods to do you'll get sick of it!

the only real major problems ($$$$) that i think the tours really have tends to be the tranny whether automatics slipping and manuals having synchro issues and oil starvation on hard turns. Drive the svt and see how it shifts. IF it shifts fine then go for it. Do a search on oil starvation or spun bearings and get the details on that. IF you take the preventative measures when you buy it then you should be fine. The other issues you hear about these cars tend to be cheaper fixes things like water pumps.

I agree with everything you mentioned EXCEPT this. Have you ever contacted your insurance agent to learn the difference they charge between LX/GL/SE Contours and the SVT?

If you can afford the ins, get the SVT!

Should you buy an SVT....pshhh, I cant believe you asked that. Yes of course you should buy one. There great, I love mine, and they have some great mods you can do to em.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

I think that you should buy the CSVT instead of the VWVR6! They both are leather loaded and fun to drive, but come on man, buy the tour and mod it to the gills, and blow the doors off of a VWVR6 and laugh all the way to the bank! Thats what I did anyway! That is all!

Get the Jetta. With typing like that, it sounds like a match made in heaven....
