i am the manager of a quick lube oil change co. called OIL CAN HENRY'S, and if you didn't know already, your 98-00 contour is equiped w/ a Cabin Air Filter, these filters filter the air when you turn on your ac/and heater, service interval is every 20,000 miles. 98 and up Tarus has them too, you wouldn't beleave the Nasty CAF's i see all the time , check yours if you havent already you might be suprised,

Yeah, I replaced mine a little while after I got the car, with about 40k miles on it. It was NASTY. All black and filled with crap. Glad that wasn't going into the passenger compartment.

Why was this thread moved? It's a general maintenance issue, not a "mod" of any type.

Its really quite easy. Was the absolute first thing I did when I picked up my svt. There was always a bit of a smell when i turned on the AC, but its gone now. Previous owner had 60k miles on the first one

It's no problem to replace. I get mine from Ford for a few bucks, although you can pick them up at quite a few parts places.
