I thought you guys would understand. I had two of my cars broken into a couple weeks ago. Here are the pics:

Don't ask how they broke into the Contour
Luckily they didn't take the 'tour's CD changer but the control panel bezel set me back $50. The Saturn is back to its original stereo while I pulled the stereo from a third car of mine and put it in the 'tour.

Very minimal damage. I got (un)lucky.

You can break into a Celica using the stock antenna ... it's easy for any car. It's why I don't generally keep valuables in my car, and bought an alarm.

I notice they kept the faceplate cover in your glove compartment. Did you put the faceplate away when you left your car?

this is what I took care of every day at my last job....Investigating and replacing stolen stereo equipment. Hope you had a low deductable. And yes you are lucky that the dash damage is minimal and that they simply unplugged the harnesses and antenna, or cut the adapter harness.
Out of the thousands of claims I handled I only remember 1 where a head unit was stolen while the face plate was removed.. As a rule of thumb if you lock your doors take your faceplate. Its removeable for a reason.
Oh and if you have a Kenwood with 3D mask.. your screwed because that is a prime target for theft. They see the blacked out plastic pannel and they immediately know that you have one of the top 3 kenwood models with the face attached. Thats why Kenwood dropped the feature this year.

I had an Aiwa stolen out of mine, when I wasn't in the habit of removing the faceplate. Once I got the new unit, that faceplate came off every day at work. But you know, I don't do it at home and only some of the time when I'm just out. I'm weird like that.

Alipne Security All ze way

Are you going to replace the system? (Or is that sarcasm ?) was it meant that you aren't gonna do stereos anymore?

If not, still get an alarm (or even a blinking led kit in an appropriate location)

Whoever did it won't leave you alone knowing the car is easy.

The insurance deductible is too high to replace the stereos. They weren't fancy stereos and I wanted it that way to avoid this! Both were a bit more than $100. A Sony in the Contour and a Pioneer in the Satty.

The broken glass had a different deductible so that is all I claimed and fixed everything else myself. A cell phone and a load of CDs between the two cars were stolen too.

The funniest part (to me) is that they stole the tote bag for my snow chains - but not the chains. Just needed a bag to put everything into I guess.

The Contour has an alarm but both cars park underground beneath our own apartment complex. Car alarms go off when bass exhaust drives by and all three floors hear it through the A/C ducts so I've been foregoing arming mine at night so as not to be annoying. Well, from now on my car will join the chorus. And I'm back to removing the faceplate at night.

I'll eventually get a new stereo for the Contour as the replacement stereo is a Sony tape deck. It works just fine and controls the CD changer, but really, I don't have tapes anymore! The Satty can wait until summer and it will get a new stereo. The stock unit is lame.

I had not one, but two stereos stolen out of my contour.

One was stolen while the car was at a shop getting fixed... they didn't lock the doors. Yeah, they paid for it, but only after I had a lawyer threaten to sue them.

The other was stolen while the car was parked outside of a bar. I had been inside for half an hour, and when I came back my front right window had been busted in and my stereo ripped out. Dash damage was pretty nasty, they cracked the plastic bezel.

My brother did have my old Kenwood 3D stolen out of his car a couple years ago... nice deck, but definitely a target... I usually took mine in with me if I was parked in a sketchy spot.
