Got a CEL the other day, went to Autozone and they pulled a single code of P1038 bank 1. I was told im running too rich. To answer some basic questions...

1) Plugs have about 30k on them. Autolite Double plats

2) Have MIL eliminators installed (gutted pre cats)

3) Fuel filter was changed about 17k ago

4) I have a return fuel system

5) I've noticed im consuming oil. Before problem never burned a drop (5k intervals Mobil 1)

6) No sputtering, or noticeable bad engine behavior. If the CEL was not tripped, I would have otherwise never suspected a problem.

Any idea's?

Never saw a P1038.

P1138 is down stream bank 1 rich. Bad MIL eliminator?

Downstream sensor on that side is probably tired and due for replacement.

MIL eliminators still require a functional downstream O2 sensor in order to eliminate the "catalyst below efficiency" codes. The MIL eliminator just slows down the output of the sensor so the PCM thinks the catalyst is working.
