I searched and really, I dont know what you all are talking about, wolfers, amps, etc. All I want to do is make my car quieter, my new tires that are on the way should help, but I am curious how noticable would it would be for me to dynmat the trunk, doors, floor. Sounds like a lot of work.

Is it worth it from a comfort (lower road noise) standpoint?

Is interior removal and remplacement difficult, does it require special tools?

I dont know the difference between the inner and outer door skins, I would assume that the outer skins are hard to get to because of the window aparatus, am I correct?

Does the term "deck" refer to the inside of the trunk or the speaker shelf at the rear window?

I assume that there is stock soundproofing beneath the carpet, do you put this back on top of the dynomat?
Thanks

It depends on the type of noise you are trying to get rid of. If you want to soften the noise from the engine, then matting the firewall would be the first thing you do. I would suggest doing the doors and floor next. After that, then you can get really picky: the headliner, trunk, etc.

A car fully matted with two layers is silent with a semi in the next lane (city traffic, that is). And I'm not sure how fast you have to be going to hear road/engine noise with two layers, but I know its fast.

One layer will increase your comfort level, if you consider comfort level being more quiet. I like the sound of my SVT so much I couldn't try to block any of it out. The only mat I would put in would be in the trunk and doors (for sound quality).

You always want your Dynamat to be on metal. Period. Except maybe if a certain spot was rattling. If I were matting doors, I would put some on the panel the speaker is attached to and whatever I would on the inside of the one you see from the outside.

The deck you're referring to I think is the rear area between the top of the seats and the rear window.

I don't know if there is any factory soundproofing in the floor. I think it's just carpet.

Dynamatting to decrease noise in your car is a large task. You have to get to and get everything out of the way of where your Mat is going, then you have to clean the surface thoroughly so the Mat sticks better. Dynamat for a Contour probably costs $500-700 a layer. I know you can get similar stuff much cheaper, but I don't know enough about that stuff to talk about it.

Contours are noisy cars. When I had my GL, it was kind of annoying. But the SVT sounds so much sweeter and now I don't mind.

In summary, it's a task to decrease noise in the car. The less noise, the larger the task. It all depends on what you want. Post here if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your response, I just wanted to eliminate the road noise, I took out the resonator but I am going to replace it with a muffler. Im not unhappy with engine noise but just wanted to quiet the road noise down. Thanks again.

i just got some lightning audio soundproofing spray, and let me tell you, just 1 can , only on my front doors, made an obvious difference in both road noise and speaker performance.
i cant imagine how nice the ride would be if i did the back doors, floor panel and firewall as well. after my intro to the stuff, i definitely support it

i bought a set of infinity subs from sounddomain.com, and they threw in a free can. i think their regular price is 24.95$ but you can find lots of items that come with a free can, if youre shopping for other stuff anyway

it can be a bit messy, but if you prepair your area, throw down some cloths over your interior, it really gets into the little parts of your car which is nice. 1 can covered 2 doors, and my liscence plates (which were rattling like angry snakes before)

overall good stuff. next time i start a system, i know what my FIRST step will be, sound deadening

Anything form a spray can is not sound deadening, it is to prevent vibrating. It is meant more for plastics and other composites.
Dynamat is great. Best when adhered to metal, but will work on plastics as well.

But like Davo7SVT said, what you use and how much you use depends on what noise/vibration you trying to get rid.

no, actually im pretty sure it DOES deaden sound. whats the difference between a dry mat of accoustic deadening material, or a spray which dries into a layer? it even says right on the label to use it on clean metal, and to only spray lightly on plastic parts if you want to prevent rattle. that, and i can notice the difference in noise level in my car, so it certainly did deaden.

its the same thing, different application

the lighting audio vibration dampening spray should run you around $20 bucks from a car audio store, and the dynamat spray should be about $15.. But remember the lighting audio is 24oz, while the dynamat is 10.5oz.. so ya get more spray for your money with the lighting audio.
