just as a general question about oil, when it's cloudy and looks like it's sandy, is that a sign of coolant? its from my bike so it has nothing to do with the tour but i thought some of you would know some syptoms. thougt it might just be cold and had airpockets in it but i just dont think thats the case. any info is appreciated

thats right, if its a tan colour and sort of milky is a sure sign of coolant.

Your bike doesn't share the same tranny/motor oil together does it?

If it does Tranny oil can get cloudy from friction material off the clutch plates.

If it doesn't then you could be getting coolant/water into the oil. Is the oil old? has the bike been sitting for a really long time?

bike has been sitting since november. i jhust did and oil change about 2 wks ago and didnt even drive it since then. i think i may have revved it too high with it being too clod. idk. not happy about it but will def have to find what happened.

How long have you owned the bike? Everything was fine when you got it? I know with used sport bikes you have to be very careful. I've seen some very nice bikes that where ratted out internally I hope you find out the problem.

I don't know if your bike is water-cooled or not, but I do know that this time of year when bikes sit for long periods of time in subzero temperatures, the metal gets r-e-a-l cold. When the ambient temperature jumps up like it did here in Central NY today (low 40's!), the (relativly) warm air hits that super cold metal of the bike's motor, and can cause quite a bit of condensation to form (both on the outside of the engine as well as on the i-n-s-i-d-e of the engine). If you then start the engine up and run it for a few minutes, that could turn the oil milky. If you run it until it gets to full operating temp, and THEN ride it for a half hour or so, it should boil that moisture out of the oil. (Just sitting in neutral and reving it won't get the oil hot enough with these low temps.)

(BTW, thats why the mfg suggest you change the oil just before storage, as the moisture from condensation in used motor oil tends to form acids in the oil which attack the bearings.)
