Not to try to take away from the ATI Subframe group buy (I wish I had the cash for one), but I'd love it of anyone had some sort of half-assed how-to with some pics of exactly what needs to be beefed up when boxing a subframe. I DID search and pretty much everything has expired picture links anymore and poor procedure detail. Thanks guys.

Let me be the first one to scream at the top of my lungs...

SEARCH!!!

A good how to has been posted at least twice.

The original one had the pictures offline but in a recent post someone hosted them for that post. So I gues that's at least 3 posts with the information about boxing in the subframe.

I've done it and I have some pics of the end result. I modeled mine after ATI's and when I was done it looked just like it. I have a few more to do for fellow cegers.

Hey Greg: You say you did yours laying on your back? Did you catch fire or have you got "leathers"? Personally, I hate putting out little fires on my clothing. Plus, you need to drop the subframe to weld the "socket" side of the subframe where the strap inserts. I gather you only welded the bolt up end.

Drop the subframe and take a close look - it will be obvious where the factory supplier skimped on weld & material.

There was only one side of the stock strap I couldn't weld from the bottom.

With the addition of the side support I added that's really not going to make a difference. That and the mount plate cover over half the welded sides themselves.

I didn't just use the thin stock straps and only weld up 3 sides on it. That's what I did as a basis and then the real mounting piece and the side support are high grade plate steel. Those two pieces alone can easily support the bar.

I used all new grade 8 hardware as well.

Thank you Demon, I do remember that post, but of course it didn't turn up in a search. Amazing the difference between searching "box subframe" and "boxed subframe"

There is a bit of skill involved in internet research.

Is there anything to be gained by boxing up a stock rear sub frame? Couldn't tell much from the pics, can anyone use words and not a undescriptive photo to describe in detail what occurs.
