Have that same blue oval stealerships run and OASIS report for you. All you need is the VIN #. It's free all ford dealers can do it.

I will call a local dealer and have them run the report for me.

great SLM just called about another part that I ordered and I mentioned the oasis report and they said they will run it and ship it with that part that I ordered from them.
Gosh I really want a car to get around in. Waiting for the tran or bus can really a pain sometimes especially going cross town.
to keep the tour running or to lay it to rest that is the question.

Given the figure of $7500, I'd say either a) drive the car "till the wheels fall off" in its current state and then go get a new ride, or b)trade it in/sell it now.
Why? The cost of repairs exceeds the value of your car and unless you've got a strange sentimental attachment to it, it makes no sense to keep the car even if repairs were half ($3750) of the stated amount.
If it were me, I'd get rid of it as fast as possible. The great thing about selling a car is that it is no longer your problem. Full disclosure is certainly ethical in situation such as this and if you still have a complex in selling it to an individual, trade it in. Let the "faceless corporation" take the hit.

I agree with the thought of gett'n shed of it (bad cost to benefit ratio), get the shift prob solved and trade it in.
Yeah the Element is different but definitely better than an Aztec, that thing looks like it whooped by a huge ugly stick.
The Gee-TO looks okay from the front but the rear looks like it was backed into a wall. The rear deck is too short and shmushed up, it makes the car look a little too chubby for my tastes.

The reason there's so much ignorance is that those who have it are so eager to share it.
