Blaupunkt San Jose illum's in amber/red? Anyone have a picture of a head unit with amber/red in the car with the green lights from everything else contrast pictures?

OK, bang for buck what's the verdict? I'll go from there. Thanks.
You just have to search for "alpine" and the model number to find it on eBay. I don't know why they may be selling lower on eBay but many manufacturers will not honor a warranty for products purchased via the internet. This is because they have regions or zones for their distributors. This reduces price gouging between distributors / retailers, IIRC. I recently spoke with our local Zapco distributor regarding this topic when debating purchasing an amplifier over the internet. Not to say you will have problems with any product you may purchase via the internet or that ALL manufacturers will not honor warranties it just seems to be the general case I have encountered. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong (Constructive Criticism wink laugh )

nice pic for a head unit. my housemate just ordered/received his from ebay for $379. it's a great head unit!

Paul M:
the 7995 doesn't have optical or internal amplifiers and the seek/load time for the mp3 portion is not bad at all. takes about 2 seconds for it to load up and have all the mp3z ready to go.

i bought the 7894 about 2 weeks ago. that's also a very nice choice for a head unit. it's got 3 rca's and other than the internal amplifier and different color faceplate it's the same as the 7995. both great units and pretty good prices online. now i'm thinking of replacing my front infinity's with a set of MB Quart components. i found a set of 6.5"s for $179! (it's either them or the kappa perfect 6.5" components).

Yea the load times are pretty quick. I haven't had a chance to make a complete mp3 cd with folders and such yet but I put a few 100MB DJ mixes on a cd and it only takes about 2 seconds to load each track. I really like the 7998's phantom face feature.. crutchfield has some pictures with the face retracted, but it's $800 eek

I second WinMX. It may not be as user friendly as others, but once you figure it out, it is easy. Most importantly, it is powerful. You can choose min. bps, download speed of the source, etc.

From what I have heard the JVC SH-99 sounds like the best value.

Another option you may want to consider is getting a solid portable MP3 player and attach it as an aux. input to your HU. Sound quality won't be the best, but it is a decent temp. fix (i currently have my RioVolt MP3 CD player hooked up and its not too bad).

For you MP3 search engine q: try Grokster (be sure to eliminate the spy-ware) or Kazaam Lite.

My vote goes for WinMX as well. Has anyone installed the new version 3.1?? It is bad I was downloading some music the other day, it offers downloads from multiple users at once WOW! I was downloading some songs at over 180kb/s

don't have any pics of the San Jose in my dash... but the 'brushed aluminum' look of the deck and outer ring look really sharp... ( NPI ).

As for the look with the other gauges... The red doesn't REALLY stand out as much as the sky-blue display does. As stated before... it's REALLY bright at night. But... I've grown accustomed to it, and it gives a sweet ambience at night while driving around.

my only gripe with mp3 players i ngeneral is that you have SO many songs, especially with hard drive models, it's a pain to navigate through all the folders and/or create playlists to find the songs you wanna hear, as opposed to just having a disc you made with 10-15 tracks on it and you can skip through and just hear what you want.
I'm not sure about the other decks... but I build my mp3 cds based on mood: hard driving ( road rage ), mellow, old stuff, etc. On each cd, I list the artists in folders. I.e. Orbital, Aphex Twin, Delerium, etc. The San Jose has two different mix/shuffle modes... MIX 1: shuffle within ONE folder... MIX 2: shuffle the entire CD.
Both the remote and the deck have 'Folder up/Folder Down' buttons for quick jumping.

Finally... As for the JVC SH-99 deck... I decided on the San Jose because it had better specs: 4v outputs, better CD response range, higher FM sensitivity, etc, etc. And also for the larger display area for text, which I mentioned before...

Sorry for the novella, guys... just wanted to add .02 more to the pile.

you know, as i checked around a little now. I think based on bang for buck and functionality with features, i think i'll be leaning into the Blaupunkt San Jose.

Oh, is the HU able to dim with the interior lights also?

but it shouldn't matter anyways. I think it's
1.blaupkunt
2.alpine
3.pioneer
4.anything else.

just need 3 rca's, 4v, and quick reads.
thanks guys.
