Does anyone know the maximum wattage that can be used on the low beams and high beams without causing any adverse effects on the headlight wiring or housing?

most people just put the high beam bulb in place of the lows


so that is 65 watts

Yup. Unless you do a projector conversion or something of the sort, you are not going to get much benefit. Otherwise, you just end up going from crap to brighter crap.
