Hey guys well i finally got my contour back together after almost a year.... just havn't had time to work on the thing
if anyone is interested in the neat and cool stuff i did check out the car for sale in the classifieds
anyways, within an hour of posting my ad i received an email about the car reading like this....

well this just sounded really creepy because i have heard how it is illegal to ship cars to india and other countries where people are trying to buy cars for their "clients" and ship them overseas
if anyone has info on this let me know...
should i have put "NO SCAMMERS" in my post... like that will scare them off or something

did you read the article listed right below the classified that says:
WARNING! There are several scam artists lurking these classifieds. The most common scam is the old "Debtors Check" scam, where they offer to send you a $5000 check and you are supposed to send the difference back. Of course, their check bounces and you are out the difference. Don't fall for it!

yea i saw that but i was shocked to see that it took them about half an hour to already have an email sent to me. Not too hard i guess. Just threw me off cuz that is the amount that i was asking for the car LOL.
Seeing that Warning was the reason i wasted my time starting this thread.
Maybe i should change my asking price to $5001 just to throw them off

i've been selling my other car on autotrader and get these emails all the time.. funny thing is everytime i post a change or make a revision, i get the scam note later within a day... wierd.
everytime i see the words 'My Client' i delete it.. they dont' even provide a phone #.

I post quite a few things in the CEG classifieds and get dozens of these scam emails everytime. My last round of posts I started the ad with....."NO INTERNATIONAL OFFERS!!! NO BRITISH DEALERS PURCHASING FOR "CLIENTS"!!! NO DEBTORS CHECKS!!! NO SCAMMERS(AND I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE) OF ANY KIND WILL BE ENTERTAINED!!!
THANK YOU!!" in big bold letters and I haven't received one single scam email from those ads. The one ad that I didn't add that into gets about 10 scam responses a day. Just mark them as SPAM and delete them.

really? wow, so i guess they actually read the ads.. i was under the impression that somehow they hack into the site and have automatically generated messages..
once i got 2 emails, within minutes of each other, same name, same message, different generic email address..

The warning was put up because we were getting at least four new topics a week by people complaining about them and warning about them. Seems we still get that many a week even after the warning, though.

I'm betting ... odds on favourite ... that the warning will have the same level of effectiveness as the Forum stickies/how to's/read me firsts!!
