Both of the Contours on my driveway (mine and my mom's) have needed new spark plug wires because the protective jacket of the wire chaffs against the hood of the car and ruins the wire. Has anyone else had this problem? What was Ford thinking...

On both my Contours the wires are seated in the looms and don't contact the hood at all. Where are your wires rubbing against the hood?

my wires don't rub on the hood either.. take a pic of your engine bay, that might help us see what's going on under there.

yeah, they shouldnt be rubbing against the hood at all if you have those L shaped plastic wire seperators that wrap around the two corners of the intake manifold. i had to replace my wires because of a crack in one and it was arching to the intake manifold. id replace um and get some of those plastic things if the new ones dont come with them. but, yeah, first post a pic of you can. good luck

My wires don't look like they could EVER touch the hood. No biggie for you though, a bit of wire loom should solve your problem.

OK, I just changed my 98 CSVT wires with these and the #6 wire (I think) was rubbing against the hood insulation and shows a wear mark. After installing these, my car didn't hesitate anymore. There are definately lots of interference issues with the v6 fitting in such an enclosed space. Definately packaging issues.
