Ok 1st the question.... I got one of those roush prepped tranny's in the summer of 03'. Gonna be installing it here in a few months along with the 3L. What fliud should I use in this case. When i searched all i found were answers for "worn" and used tranny's. REDLINE MTL, Synchromesh, or Ford's Cocktail. Also, if I use one of these, should I still upgrade the syncros, or forks?

Ok now for the hypothesis; I have a 96 mtx and a 99 mtx. I also know someone witha 96 mtx as well. Neither of the 96's have shift problems (rod style shifter) but my 99 has been grinding for the past 60k miles (shift tower). I have been shifting carefully btw, Based on reading some other posts here, it seems that coincidentally most of the "premature" grinding are associated with people who would have the shift tower. I just wanted to see if this has any real correlation to it, or if I am just jumping to conclusions.

Sounds reasonable to me. I put a used MTX with 70k miles into my car about 11k miles ago so it now has 81k miles on it. It is a rod shifter. I drive the royal piss out of my car, always dropping the gears hard and have never had a problem with grinding gears or lack of engagement. I posted a new tranny from ebay that I saw a week ago, it was only $250 and all people said was that it would need the upgraded forks ect. Which is BS since mine has original forks and works fine. Fluid is clean as well. I don't do burnouts because I don't want to loose my diff.
