I could build a PC for that price...

because you can 'backup' games and play them all region free (import games) and also have emulators (old NES, SNES, etc...) on them, along with media centers and many many many other options. i still don't know if i would go for preinstalled (DIY isn't that hard at all).

yes I know what you can do with it...however I just can't justify $200-$300 extra for the installation of a HD, chip, and software.

I have never soldered before and definitely wouldn't want a brand new X Box to be my test mule...that is why I would order preinstalled.

I have personally bought from
http://www.system-mods.com. I used a Xecuter 2.3 pro. It comes with an external switch that you need to turn the chip on. I lost it and they shipped me another at no cost.

Try to get a xbox with a samsung drive. That will save you a lot of headaches. I find all I really use is a hard drive loader, a file manager, XBMC or whatever, and a dongle-free DVD player, and evox of course. Check out Slayer's evox installer, it has all you need.

BTW, do a google site search for this stuff, type in google "site:www.xbox-scene.com <whatever>"
