I am as everyone in the "business" is fond of saying a "newbie", as I am sure that most of you have noticed from the name thing on the side. That being said, I have looked into this a bit but can not find any clear opinions on what the best 3.0L Block is if one wanted to do a 3.0 hybrid on something like...Oh I don't know lets say a 96 mystique for example. Once that is all cleared up a complete part list and a procedure guide might be a REALLY nice thing to include so that if some one were to do this to say a 96 mystique they don't happen to suffer a costly and very stupid mistake just because they were less then 100% clear on what was all needed. If someone could be convinced to point the less knowledgeable in the correct direction, It would be fantastic.

Thanks

there are MANY clear opinions al over the place. THey all boil down to one block. Look and youll find it. clear as day.

A parts list depends on the type of swap. A guide with pictures and instructions is avalible in a few places. www.contour.org, www.fordcontour.org, www.fastcougar.com.

Best of luck.

Exactly... the 3 liter forum on www.fastcougar.com has a 3 liter faq, with the blocks and instructions on installing.

There is no 100% clear way to inform someone about this modification. It boils down to personal preference and funds allowed in so many areas that it's not even funny. Tell us how much money you have, who's doing the work, and how much experience they have with Duratec engines. Then we can tell you the best, the cheapest, and the easiest swaps that you can do. It's not the greatest swap to learn on as far as engine builds go simply because of these choices that need to be made correctly in order for the swap to work as planned.

sorry I should have been clearer. I was reading the forums the other night and there seemed to be alot of debate on weither the escape or the taurus block was the best to use. So far as people that I know that will be doing the work and getting the parts are concerned I have people on the inside of a local auto wrecker, as well as access several mechanics and full garage, hoist and all. I was simple looking for the general consensus on the BEST way to do it not necessarily the cheapest.

Thanks Again

The best NA version of the 3L has changed quite a bit over the last year to year and a half or so. Pretty much, get a 2001 or later 3L. Doesn't matter Tortus or Escape. Follow the how to on the cougar boards and very, very closely follow Warmonger's site (turdbo) and DemonSVT's site (killer NA monster) for worthwhile mods during the swap process.
