96 Contour SE
I am adding seperates in the front. Looking at the screw plug covers at the defrosting vent cover by the door mirror.
This plug seems to be very difficult to remove without damaging it. Any advice. Do you just buy new plugs?
Any other advice or tricks for removing the door panels? (I do have the manual, but any extra advice is appreceated).

I believe some people have used a strong tape to pull them out.

I am buying all new plugs. I had to screw a wood screw into the center of them and pull them out, they would'nt come out any other way.

I havent bought them yet Dave I'm waiting until I get finished with the install. I want to be sure the panels arent coming back off for a while. I get all of my Ford parts from 5star Ford in Scottsdale Arizona, Dan Newman is the man to talk to. Dan gives me GREAT DEALS on parts.Probably because I buy so many. I'm doing a ground up resto. of my Thunderbird Super Coupe and he has been a great help to me. He even drop ships the parts on my front porch faster than the local dealers can get the parts in themselves. I've bought things like this for my other cars before, they will not cost much and I always buy extra's just in case.

The first few times I used a very small jewelers flathead screwdriver to gently pry them out at first, the damage caused by the screwdriver was hardly noticable unless you looked very close. After that I replaced them...they were less than a buck each...now I just use a hot glue gun and put a small dab of hot glue on them to get them out, then peel the glue off afterwards. works great and I'll never have to buy them again.
btw there is one in the door handle...have fun with that one. Actaully there is a little indent you could put a screwdriver (jewelers) and pop it out...just be sure you don't let it fly and lose track of it. Been there, done that.

i just kept them out. i got tired of putting them in and out. the lack of them doesn't bother me at all. the door handle ones are left out too.
the tape trick never worked for me.
...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

Thanks for all the advice.
Tape did not work for me but weather stripping did (the foam strips that you line around windows and doors etc). Any sticky stuff will work.
Just cut a piece that is the same width as the plug. Pulled the plug out on first try.

The Ford dealer raped me for $4 a piece. Cost me $8 for the panel, $4 for the damn plug.
