Got into an accident this past summer. (Waiting for pics to get approved in registry and viewing). No serious injuries. Had everything repaired at cost of others insurance since it wasn't my fault, and because 17 year old girls have no business driving, with their little girlfriends, talking on the phone, in a big van. A rant for another time. Was fairly satisfied with the results of the repairs. Then, less than 1k miles after the accident I get a rod knock. My mechanic and I convinced the insurance adjuster that the knock was a result of the accident and we believe it really was. The adjuster agreed to cover it! I'm pretty excited about this thing going my way. I thought this was going to cost me big time. Now I have a lot of decisions to make. What to put in it. What else to get done while everythings out, etc, etc. I have several ideas and I welcome any thoughts.

Nice. I wouldn't think insurance is going to allow anything other than an OEM engine replacement.

How bout a little background.
What type of engine/transmission do you have? Are you talking an SVT?
How many miles are on it?

Maybe they would pay the amount for OEM replacement, but upgrades would be his responsibility? I've had house claims go that way.

you are one lucky mother ******!!!
i deal with claims for a living and you could have the shop doing your work pretty much buy anything you want. When i got in to a collision i had the shop buy a carbon fiberhood that i wanted. Didn't pay an extra cent Note to you:its cheaper if you get the parts your self.

Yeah, I'm still a newb here and this whole incident is what motivated me to come to this site to look for some info and get some help with my car.
I should add that this is an excellent site with tons of info. People seem pretty cool here and I've learned/learning a lot.
Still no sig but as mentioned in some of my other posts. I have a black 98.5 CSVT with 48k miles on it. Bought it new back then and have always had regularly scheduled maintanence. Have always loved this car and was very bummed after the accident.
The only mod I ever had done was a Borla cat back exhaust. I bought it (the Borla) from a former member of this board (I think, may have been Fordcontour.org) who has, sad to say, since passed on. Maybe some here knew him - Mr. Foley. He was Auto Shop teacher at a HS here in Chicago. Very cool man.
Anyway, at this point insurance will be issuing me or the shop a check. Still ironing out the details. And between that check and what I would be willing to pay out of pocket I feel as if I have a blank canvas to work with.
I also know someone who works at Ford who can get whatever with a discount. I've read that someone here also gets parts at good discounts too. Bill Jenkins is it?
Once you see the pictures you can see how it could be argued that the impact to the engine compartment probably caused the rod to eventually knock. Especially given the other circumstances, regular oil, less than 1k since crash, etc. My guy also said that the rod bearings showed some scoring that was consistent with the crankshaft taking a hit and being pushed forward.
Given all of this its probably the right time to get other things done.
Can I get another 2.5l in a crate, brand freaking new, or would it be a remanufactured one? Maybe get my existing 2.5 rebuilt? Get a used 2.5? Then theres the whole possibility of getting 3.0l.
Its a little overwhelming. But like I mentioned, details with the adjuster still have to be figured out and I don't know what limitations/conditions will be placed on me.

You are not that far from Terry Haines' shop (well, compared to me, anyway.) He'll ship a "crate" 3.0, or he can do the work on your car if you can get it there. (He's in Michigan.) Contact him at info@hainesmotorsports.net

3l swap
find a trashed taraus or even a 3L from a shop, swap the svt heads(after getting them cleaned and services with new seals of course) and slap them on.
your insurance company will LOVE you. A new 2.5L crate motor I think will run around 3500 with all the crap on it.
or so that was what I was told from the ford dealership when I just asked.

P3 98 CSVT, stock

My guess is, the Insurance Company isn't going to know what motor is going in. They will figure the price of the 2.5L and install. They will cut the check to either the Insured, or the shop doing the work. From there, the Insured and the shop can discuss what goes into his car.
Ive been rearended, where the lady's Insurance Company cut me a check for ~$1400.00 for repairs.. I bought a new rear SVT bumper for ~$300 less than new through my discount, had a body shop paint it, and I installed it for free. I made ~$400 from that deal. Same situation, only with a motor.
