The what look? I came up with that on my own after going through a couple of sketches and design changes. I originally was going to do a single scoop offset over the air filter, then decided it would look akward. So I went to a symetrical style. Then decided I didn't like how it looks with the 2 scoops and changed to pipe inlets. Then decided to put in the scoop in the middle and found a balance I was happy with.

Haha I did the possibly the funniest thing ever this morning. My poor car had about 8 inches of snow(go eastern PA!) so what did I do? I cleaned off the car and shaped my scoops out of snow! lol I'll leave the links because it will save space. I did get alot of the basic measurements done through! :-)

I like it alot. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think it looks good. But function is what it's all about. With all the discussions on here about air filters, heat shields, remote ducts, cowl hoods, hood scoops, ad nausem, I'd think something like this would really light people up. Here is a completely functional, working, and doable solution. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on these assumptions.) It's not just a hole in the hood. I for one would really like to know/see how it was done. For those of us who can't afford to change from n/a to s/c etc, this would seem to be a natural progression.

Didn't mean to hijack Titan, but this seemed to be a natural response to the way the thread was going. Since I can't currently see your pix, why don't you consider something like this? Having a scoop in the middle may look nice, but you're gonna have to do some major ducting to make it functional. If it's not gonna be functional, just buy one at JC Whitney and stick it on. Not trying to be funny, I just hope you can make it work.

agreed....why not just go to your local subaru dealership and purchase either a wrx or sti hood scoop (they can be removed from the hood ya know) and have your local body shop mold that in for you? this seems gto be the look that you are going for anyways. why try to redesign the wheel?

no offense, but i wish that the whole idea of a hood scoop on a contour/mystique hood would go away. i have yet to see one that actually flows with the lines of the car very well. matter of fact, stilov's is about the best that i have seen just because it is small, discreet, and it actually serves a purpose.

as far as getting hot air out of the engine compartment, i would venture to say that simply removing the rubber cowl to hood gasket and placing some washers under the hood brackets to create a little rake would be more effective than most of the ideas i have seen. matter of fact i seem to recall that demon has done exactly that?

and, whatever you decide to do, don't let it over power the car body symmetry/lines. far too many of these things can be either way too big for our cars, or they destroy the "flow" of the lines. its possible to be subtle, at the same time aggressive. if its functional so much the better!

Exactly. IMO the subaru style scoop would be too tall to "fit in" on a contour. Now, if you took the same scoop and made it about half as tall...

While not as functional smack dab in the middle, it would help to keep the engine cool. Wouldn't it?? The fresh air would make its way to the filter.

Of couse I could just be rambling...

yes - you are - not much of the air will go to the filter - and it wont do much for cooling

Darn...just about everyone and their mom are getting in on this one. For one WTH is with the subura thing? Does it look like one? der no! all they have is that bubble of a non-funtional dent in a hood. and another thing I'm not building a ram air hood, so don't assume i'm trying to force air into the engine. All I wanted to accomplish was having cooler air around the filter and having some fresh air to keep the compartment cool come summer. geez All I really wanted was some opinions on how it looked it if it was going to add 20 thousand hp or not. Sometimes I think people get to anal....

oh and the pics stopped showing up because of limited bandwith with the geocities/yahoo page, give it a few hours
