No offense to the Mustang/Cobra owners ('cause I'm a Mustang nut from "way" back...'72 Mach 1, '86 SVO) but I think the CSVT shows a higher level of sophistication and maturity. Granted we're not talking about a Lincoln LS or BMW 5-series...but in comparison to a mid '90s Cobra Mustang, the CSVT has way more to offer.

Just my $.02

I think it all comes down to comfort.

My 6'3" frame just doesn't fit right in a Mustang, and I've driven a lot of them.

Fun cars, but driving a Contour is a lot more comfortable and easier.

JVT hit the nail on the head. My buddy owned a 98 Cobra and I didn't fit in it comfortably no matter what I did! I drove it a couple of times but I still felt more comfortable in my car. It's no joke when they say those stangs handle like boats.

The real challenge is finding a '94 that hasn't been beat to crap. Might have slightly more luck than with a regular GT or 5.0, but make sure you get a complete history with records.

haha exactly, I'd go the T/A or Z28/SS route long before purchasing a Cobra.

i think the smarter choice is definitely the SVT contour - but every time i hear a mustang GT or cobra - 5.0 or newer 4.6 - start up, that rumble just gets me all weak in the knees.

however, with that said, i tried to trade my SVT in on a '99 cobra convertible last fall w/ only 8k miles on it. dealer was asking too much for the cobra and wouldn't give me squat for my car, though, so i walked. later, after the 9/11-induced fire-sale prices at every car dealership in town - and i'm speaking primarily of the 0% financing on ALL fords, including cobras - i tried to talk myself into a new cobra. coulda gotten a heck of a deal on one, and i *love* the exhaust note, the seats, and even the looks...but i just couldn't justify paying close to $30k for it. now, a used one - taking advantage of ford's historically wonderful resale values (even though the cobras are better than other fords at holding their value), on the other hand, presents a whole 'nother prospect.

still, as a daily driver, i don't think i could live with one. that exhaust that sounds so good can get a little boomy and drony at certain speeds (at least in my friend's '97 cobra convertible), and except for the seats in the '01's, they're really not all that comfortable or roomy.

one day, i *will* own a mustang v8 - but (at least in an ideal world) it'll be a weekend toy, not my primary driver.

fwiw, after all my mustang lust last fall, i wound up w/ a FWD rice rocket instead of a RWD torque monster. confused go figure.

good luck w/ the decision....

Yeah I agree with ALL of your opinions so it makes it a lot harder. The poll is leaning heavily one way but thats maybe just cause its a contour board. I might go post this same thing on stangnet and see what I get there just for a different perspective.

Blake- Whenever I see a cobra or hear one I get weak. I punch it and wonder when I'm gonna get that V8 kick. Wishful thinkin I guess.

When I think about practicality I also think about me being 16. It factors in a lot because I still have a lot of livin to do if everything goes as planned. I know If I get rid of the CSVT I'll get one later in life just because its my first car, nostalgia, blah blah blah. I might wanna keep the CSVT through college so when I get out I have a tight car and no car payment so I can focus on other things. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I hate decisions. When I think about it I would be payin less for a 94/95 cobra but I don't have the attachment. Dangit! Well thanks for all the help...keep it comin. Peace.

Keep this in mind:

Insurance is HIGH on Mustangs
Gas mileage is worse than a Contour
Much less reliable than a Contour
Mustang=Unrefined American Muscle
Contour=Sophistaced European Performance
Mustangs have a sloppy and unrefined feel to them

But...

Performance parts are a' plenty
It's the last of the "simple" Stangs
They have a legondary history
And they will go very fast if you want to build them that way...
