OK - I read through here when I had to replace the gaskets on the LIM and UIM due to the manifolds leaking air. It was unreal how dirty everything was especially the secondaries!
I found lots of very good advise EXCEPT for the fellow that had trouble with the fuel rail couplings. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CUT THESE LINES AND PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER WITH HOSE CLAMPS AS SUGGESTED. You might get lucky and they will hold but if they do not they will spray gasoline onto the hot engine and exhaust manifolds and you will likely have a serious fire on your hands. Any fuel injected system is under considerable pressure which is why they have specially engineered couplings.....
Just buy the tool to remove the couplings - the small plastic circles in my experience work better then the "X" shape ones. You may have to pull on the coupling a bit to get it apart but it will come apart.

Yeah fuel injection ranges from 35psi to 70 psi depending on the manufacture of the car, ie ford/dodge. They sell fuel injection hose, that will work fine, the carburetor hose will not work and will fail as previously described. The hose is expensive though, about $4 a foot. So yes a hose can be used if done correctly.

Why did he think he had to disconnect the fuel rail anyway? All you have to do is unbolt it from the manifold and move it off to the side, leaving the fuel lines intact.

yes but to do that you need to remove the fuel rail and the injectors from the lim, if you just disconnect the fuel lines at the disconnect point you can take the lim out as a whole and not have to worry about replacing injector seals and causeing problems there

I guess I meant why did he think he had to remove the fuel rail COUPLINGS. Naturally, you have to remove the fuel rail but you can leave it connected to the fuel line. I always take the fuel rail off when doing a UIM/LIM cleaning. I remove each injector and install new O-rings. No point in getting that far and not doing the whole job.

what he said....and you can use fuel injection lines i went from stock lim and injectors to svt lim and injectors and since the fuel lines arent long enough to connect i had to do it this way...at first it didnt work b/c of cheap hose clamps...but once i bought some better quality ones its worked fine since

If you need new seals for the rail-manifold, you probably will have to go the dealer and get them there. No parts store around here (western washington) can find them and the dealer parts dept guy had to go to the mechanics to find the correct part number.

Well when I did the work I found it easier to remove the entire LIM and work on it on my bench than leaving the rails in the engine compartment.
My comment on the hoses stands. There should be no reason to EVER cut the lines to get the couplings apart.
By the way after the cleanning of the LIM and UIM the engine runs sweet with a better idle and a noticable increase in performance....
Cheers

You can easily remove the entire LIM from the engine without having to disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel line(s). I've removed and cleaned my UIM and LIM that way several times now.
